Perkinstown Snowshoe Race

The Perkinstown Snowshoe Race was held on January 19th, 2008.  On this bright and beautiful sunny day, people from across the region gathered to compete or to enjoy a nice walk through the heart of the Chequamegon National Forest.  The groomed courses were great and allowed all to enjoy the rolling hills, picturesque mixed hardwood, and coniferous forest.

Image by Fuad was present to capture the sites and to take pictures of participants.  They are offering photos to those participants interested at a competitive price.

The day was augmented by the "balmy" -6 degrees F high for the day.  Fortunately, the winds were light, especially while in the woods.  If you were on the course, I for one was amazed by how warm one can be while burning those calories in the bitter cold temperatures.

The day opened with Red Higgins and Yankee Train singing the national anthem and another song named "The Race is On".  Red told me later that the first breathe on the national anthem was a doozie since the temperature at that time was probably around -15 degrees.  With that, the racers and walkers began their participation in their respective events.
